News from the Libby-Tozier Gym

“Fall Into Fitness” has been our P.E. theme so far at Libby-Tozier. In physical education classes we have been working on learning our new warm-up routine, cooperative games and teamwork. We have played many of our old favorites and learned some new games along with having many conversations about fitness and how our bodies respond to exercise. We have really been focusing the benefits of being fit and just how easy it is to get exercise into our everyday lives.

The third grade has completed their first “fitness challenge” test. This assessment is based on the Presidents Challenge includes sit-ups, push-ups, shuttle run, sit and reach, and the ˝ mile walk/jog/run. Everyone did a fantastic job! We will be looking at our improvements as we take the same tests in early 2009 and then again later in the spring.

The “Golden Sneaker” Award has been awarded to Mrs. Mills class for the months of August and September. Congrats to them for following the ABCs of P.E.!

Wellness at CRMS

The focus of wellness classes for grades 4-8 for the 2008-2009 school year is “It’s All About ME”! Wellness is all about living well and being healthy which starts with each and every individual. We have learned and reviewed the health triangle and gotten right into each grade level’s curriculum.

Grades 6-8 are working with the LifeSkills Training, Real Talk and Reducing the Risk programs. The focus is making good decisions, awareness of risk behaviors and staying safe and healthy. We are also looking at all areas of health through school and community service learning projects. The 8th grade is in the process of planning “Red Ribbon Week” for the entire school and the 7th grade has begun talking about the elderly, visiting a nursing home and bringing some activities to them. Both grades are making progress towards achieving their goals while working together to do something positive for their communities. The 6th graders are working on a “Say No to Marijuana” campaign. They have created T-shirts, songs, raps, slogans, posters and even a healthy cake bringing the message that marijuana is a drug and should not be used.

5th grade’s focus right now is FOOD! We are learning about the different food groups, reading labels and how we can be better and healthier eaters. Our next topic will be the body systems tying in the good nutrition information we have learned.

4th grade is focusing on good character and how to achieve it. So far we have looked at our personalities through creating word webs about ourselves, learned the six parts of what makes up good character and applied our knowledge through a rap or cheer in each class. Also, we have reinvented the game “ Four Corners ” to fit with the Health Triangle. We play “Three Corners” reinforcing the ideas of the health triangle.
