Art Class

Welcome to the Art Room

In class we explore a variety of media: markers, paints, crayons, clay, plaster, found objects, and cut-paper etc.  My goals are to introduce students to a wide variety of materials, develop creativity and self expression.  I believe art is a universal language that we all speak and are capable of relating.  We discuss the five elements of art (line, shape, color, texture and space), the principles of design, the history of art and how it relates to various cultures. The skills learned at these grade levels are important to continued success in craftsmanship and understanding of the arts throughout our lives. My hope through understanding and appreciation is to keep that innate sense of wonder and joy that comes from creating.  The art room is special place of investigation and exploration in our school, all are welcome and accepted.

About Ms. Proffetty

I have lived in Maine since 1985.  I went to art school at Maine College of Art where I majored in printmaking and ceramics.  I have worked as a professional potter for almost 20 years and I have been teaching art for over 10 years.

At home I have a wonderful ceramic studio where I make my own art work.  I have always loved art and to be creative.  I feel very fortunate to be able to pass on my love of art to others.  It is a pleasure to be here in Litchfield and to be working with so many creative and enthusiastic students and staff.
